Supermarket collection raises £800 for Beer Scouts’ hut

16 December 2014

WITH the winter weather having arrived, 1st Beer Scouts & Axe Air Explorers will be delighted to hear that the fund to refurbish their hut has been given a huge boost.

Customers at the Tesco store in Seaton generously handed over £800 in thanks for the Scouts helping out with bag packing last weekend.

The money will go towards the extensive refurbishment project which so far has seen the removal of the asbestos cladding and insulation of three-quarters of the outside. New radiators have also been donated and installed but as yet the Scouts are still awaiting a new boiler to power them.

“The money from Tesco customers will help considerably by getting the boiler,” said Fiona Gage, Axe Air Explorers Leader and Scout Leader.

The hut was saved from sale in 2005 and while it has received the odd lick of paint and clean-up was in urgent need of an overhaul to bring the facilities into the 21st century for the 80 young people who use it every week.
